...."YOU ARE HOME" Three words that I had never heard or felt in my 45 years of life. Three words that tangibly filled an empty space in my heart that i just knew NEVER would be filled. Yes, God does speak ! As believers we ARE pilgrims, strangers in this land, just passing through, in it but not of it, however, my life, past and present has left me an orphan, never belonging anywhere and to no one. My mind and the Word of God tells me I belong to HIM, ......but now...... my HEART KNOWS IT ! ....and to think i almost did not go. I had put off a journey to the Holy Land for apprehension of tourism defiling the Holy Ground. The Spirit of God lives in me, always, everywhere i go, i don't need to be the tourist. Lets just say it was not what i anticipated and i was truly knocked off my feet with my breath taken . My group was 30 people in total and from all walks of life with different reasons for being there and different responses to the experience. Surprising it is, that i forged friendships and received accolades because all i remember is the cocoon of warmth and love that snugged me from the moment we head out from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem . .... and i cried .... non stop..... my face was always wet .... i cried when i got on the plane to return to the USA, i cried for 2 weeks afterwards and as i write this blog 9 months later i fight to see the screen through the tears. But that is just me..... my bladder sits way to close to my eyes ;0) Ok, so the soppy stuff is over, lets get to what you want to know about this journey . Safety . Our first day there was December 7th, 2017, when our President Donald Trump declared Jerusalem the Capital of Israel. There was singing and dancing in the streets with banners and posters of gratitude and love for our President . News reporters from every company you could think of were camped at the Jaffa Gate , just waiting, as they do, to report what they want to report. There were isolated situations that our wonderful and experienced and wise guides navigated around and kept us out of harms way. The guides being spirit filled and spirit led, convey the history with bible in hand. Speaking of Guides, Mike , is a Jerusalem born and raised as his father and brother and they all are guides, living, breathing even permeating Jerusalem out of their hearts and skin and face just radiating the love, the pride, the peace ....... the PEACE ! Yes it is an incredible peaceful place in spite of the current situation. Jerusalem has such a peaceful spirit . Here i am with my group . Mike to my right and the company representative Mark, to my left. The Holy Sites and places you visit put your feet in the pages of the Bible . You truly do walk where Jesus walked, you do truly stand where He returns Zechariah 14:4 , and look at the sealed gate that will bow open as He returns to Jerusalem Ezekiel 44:1,2. You do truly stand on Calvary, you are baptized in the River Jordan and so much more. So much more that this is a journey one cannot make just one time. This land is loaded with significant spots.
The food is as fresh and as clean and as pure as you can imagine. Delicious fresh vegetables, fruit, fish and honey on the comb. Pomegranates sweet and delicious and as big as an ostrich egg ! Oh it truly is the land of milk and honey ! The accommodations are first class and very comfortable as is the service . I chose this time of year to take my groups for two reasons. Less crowds and cool and comfortable weather . We are able to stay and visit at the Holy Sites and not be rushed like a heard of cattle. We had communion at the Garden Tomb, worshiped at the Garden of Gethsemane and took a lazy ride on a boat at the Most Amazing Place on earth, The Sea of Galilee . That was my favorite spot, The Sea of Galilee. Christ spent 3 years of his life at this location and as the sign at the Garden Tomb says " He is not here".... oh but his presence is . So tangible. I just cannot write about everything in this blog and if we were to have a conversation i would hold your ear for hours ! No matter what your belief is, your religion, your walk , where you are in your walk , this is for you . All i can say is ... Make this journey. You WILL thank me.
